Jill Donovan:
Do you ever feel like you’re building an ark with only the instructions for a canoe? If so, you’re not alone. Welcome to CEO-ish, where we’ll discuss traveling the path of the unknown while making it your own.

Jill Donovan:
Good morning, good evening, good afternoon, depending on when you are listening to us today, I’m Jill “bracelets” Donovan and with me is Kelly Smith.

Kelly Smith:
Hi.

Jill Donovan:
Kelly, do you remember when we said in the very first bracelets podcast that we were not going to say our names in the beginning of the podcast because everybody else does?

Kelly Smith:
Oh, no, I don’t remember that.

Jill Donovan:
You don’t? That was just like 10 episodes ago.

Kelly Smith:
It was so long ago, I forgot.

Jill Donovan:
Okay, okay. We said we weren’t going to say our names until three fourths of the way through, because everybody says it at the beginning.

Kelly Smith:
Oh, yeah, you’re right. I do remember that.

Jill Donovan:
Yeah. I take my name back. We take her name back. Okay. Welcome. Today is one of my favorite days, because we are going to be doing something we call Off Guard. Do you remember when we did Off Guard last time?

Kelly Smith:
I do. It was probably one of my favorite episodes.

Jill Donovan:
Because we did it on…

Kelly Smith:
It was on me.

Jill Donovan:
We did it on you. And Off Guard means we catch an employee off guard and then we just kind of roll with it.

Kelly Smith:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Jill Donovan:
We get to know what’s going on in their lives and we roll with whatever happens from that point on.

Kelly Smith:
Okay.

Jill Donovan:
Today we’re going to call Casey Page.

Kelly Smith:
I love Casey.

Jill Donovan:
Well, Casey works for you.

Kelly Smith:
She does. And she is… As I just told you before, on an expressive scale of 1 to 10, she’s an 11.

Jill Donovan:
Yeah.

Kelly Smith:
So, if there’s something going on in Casey’s life, it’s going on in all of our bracelets lives.

Jill Donovan:
Well, that means this might have to be edited then when Casey comes down here, because she won’t like the fact that she’s going to be on a podcast.

Kelly Smith:
No, she won’t, but she does look very cute today. So, she’ll like that.

Jill Donovan:
Did she get dressed up today for something?

Kelly Smith:
No, no, I don’t know why, but she just has her hair and makeup done, and what…

Jill Donovan:
For no reason?

Kelly Smith:
Well, she just occasionally will.

Jill Donovan:
Oh. Well, my makeup is upstairs by Casey’s bracelets desk and so the way we’re going to get her to come down is I’m going to call her and she will suspect it. I believe… Does she know we’re doing a podcast today?

Kelly Smith:
Yes, but I think she thought we were going to do it earlier, so you may be able to get away with it.

Jill Donovan:
Okay, so I’m going to ask Casey if she will bring my lipstick down.

Kelly Smith:
Her lipstick. No, ask…

Jill Donovan:
Oh, her lipstick?

Kelly Smith:
Yes, I’m wearing her lipstick shade she has on. So, you say, “I love Kelly’s lipstick.”

Jill Donovan:
“Will you bring it to me?”

Kelly Smith:
“Will you bring it to me? I want to try it on.”

Jill Donovan:
Does she have anything going on with her lips? Like any breakouts, or anything?

Kelly Smith:
You don’t actually have to try it on.

Jill Donovan:
Oh, yeah. We’re going to see when Casey comes down here, we can all judge whether, or not she has…

Kelly Smith:
Yeah, no, her lips look amazing today.

Jill Donovan:
Okay, here we go. We’re going to call Casey Page.

Kelly Smith:
I’m going to be quiet.

Jill Donovan:
Okay. We don’t get their permission-

Kelly Smith:
No.

Jill Donovan:
… ahead of time to be on the podcast.

Kelly Smith:
No, why would we do that?

Jill Donovan:
But know that when you’re watching this, it means that if it’s airing that we’ve gotten their permission for like 60% of them.

Kelly Smith:
I say if they work at this company, they’ve given permission.

Jill Donovan:
Exactly. We need to have HR write that up.

Kelly Smith:
Yes, yes.

Jill Donovan:
Sheila, could you write up in somewhere for all the employees that if they agreed to be an employee here that it’s just an automatic approval for any podcast appearance?

Kelly Smith:
Yeah, photography, release, everything. You’re just.. They just…

Jill Donovan:
Okay, here we go. Ready? We’re calling Casey. It’s the craziest thing.

Kelly Smith:
What?

Jill Donovan:
I get nervous when we make…

Kelly Smith:
She’s upstairs.

Jill Donovan:
When we make surprise calls to people, I get nervous to do that. I don’t know why. To call people and surprise them.

Kelly Smith:
And you also talk to Casey 15 times a day.

Jill Donovan:
Okay, here’s the deal. When you go and do a prank on somebody, you get just… Your heart starts beating a little faster.

Kelly Smith:
Is that why you like to do this?

Jill Donovan:
This feels like toilet papering and when I was in high school. She’s not going to…

Kelly Smith:
Unless she’s in the bathroom.

Casey Page:
Hello?

Jill Donovan:
Hey, Case.

Casey Page:
Yes.

Jill Donovan:
I’m looking at Kelly’s lips that you let her borrow her lipstick.

Casey Page:
Yes?

Jill Donovan:
Would you hate me if I asked you to bring me that same bracelets lipstick?

Casey Page:
Yeah.

Jill Donovan:
You sure?

Casey Page:
Yeah. I’ve only had four cold sores. Is that okay?

Jill Donovan:
Yes.

Casey Page:
I’m kidding.

Jill Donovan:
Five is my limit, but four is good.

Casey Page:
All right, I’m covered.

Jill Donovan:
Do you mind if I use it?

Casey Page:
No, not at all.

Jill Donovan:
Will you also do me a favor? Will you bring me my lipstick that is over on Susie’s desk? Just anyone will do.

Casey Page:
Okay, all right.

Jill Donovan:
I’m upstairs. I’m by Sheila’s office.

Casey Page:
Okay.

Jill Donovan:
Okay. Thank you so much.

Casey Page:
All right, bye.

Jill Donovan:
Bye, bye.

Kelly Smith:
Okay.

Jill Donovan:
She has no clue.

Kelly Smith:
I know. And then they’re going to start to know I’m in on it when they don’t see me upstairs and they’re going to go.

Jill Donovan:
No, no. She really believed the lipstick thing.

Kelly Smith:
I know. I told you it was a good ruse.

Jill Donovan:
She’s going to come up here and guarantee she’s going to be like, “Are you kidding me?”

Kelly Smith:
Oh, no, I’m not doing this.

Jill Donovan:
Hi.

Casey Page:
Hi.

Jill Donovan:
Say hi to podcast world.

Casey Page:
Hello, podcast world.

Kelly Smith:
Millions of people listening to you.

Casey Page:
Oh, my gosh.

Jill Donovan:
Can you do that in a British accent?

Casey Page:
Hello, podcast… Wait, is that British?

Jill Donovan:
It’s British as far as we know. That was… Do it again, the whole thing.

Casey Page:
Hello, nice to meet you today.

Jill Donovan:
Wow. Do you want to come out and play today?

Casey Page:
Do you want to come out and play?

Jill Donovan:
So, one of the things that I… This is called Off Guard.

Casey Page:
Gosh, I knew it.

Jill Donovan:
Off Guard day. Okay?

Casey Page:
Okay.

Jill Donovan:
Which means we catch somebody off guard. Apparently you didn’t seem too caught off guard.

Kelly Smith:
No.

Jill Donovan:
When we asked you to come down here.

Casey Page:
Well..

Jill Donovan:
But when we catch people off guard, we like to do two things.

Casey Page:
Okay.

Jill Donovan:
Two things as I hold up three fingers. We like to do two things. We like to do three things. First, we like to ask you what… to see one of your bracelets talents that maybe the world doesn’t know. I heard that you can cry on demand.

Casey Page:
I can. Besides probably on a podcast, but we’ll try.

Jill Donovan:
Okay. Can you show us how you cry on demand?

Kelly Smith:
If you could say something mean, that would probably help.

Jill Donovan:
Okay.

Casey Page:
No, I don’t need that.

Jill Donovan:
Oh.

Casey Page:
It’s like I go in my bad place in my head. Let me think about this. I hope I can do it. Just like I act… Honestly, how I do it is I act like how I cry in real life, which sounds really weird.

Jill Donovan:
Okay.

Casey Page:
That’s what I do. So, I’m going to try and do it, but now that I’m on the spot, it’s probably not going to work.

Jill Donovan:
And will you teach me how to do it? Because I want to see if I can do it afterwards. I’m going to do it after you.

Casey Page:
Okay, let me see. It’s like nervous. Everyone’s watching me.

Jill Donovan:
How about we do a contest to see who cries first?

Casey Page:
Okay, contest to see who cries first.

Kelly Smith:
Okay, I’m out.

Casey Page:
Come on, tears.

Jill Donovan:
I feel really stupid.

Casey Page:
I just don’t know why you think this is funny, because it’s not. I’ve really been going through a lot. Joe and I just…

Kelly Smith:
She’s shaking.

Casey Page:
I’ve been going through a lot lately and I just… Sometimes I like don’t think people realize it, and I think I’m just nervous being on this podcast, and I just…

Kelly Smith:
I’m sorry.

Casey Page:
They’re not coming.

Jill Donovan:
She has tears. I see tears.

Casey Page:
No, normally they’re like rolling down my face.

Kelly Smith:
They are.

Jill Donovan:
Okay, I can’t make you do that. I would feel terrible. Is sweat then on your nose?

Casey Page:
Probably.

Jill Donovan:
Okay. Casey…

Casey Page:
Dang it.

Jill Donovan:
That was… Let’s do…

Casey Page:
I really can. That’s so frustrating.

Kelly Smith:
No, she can. It’s way better than that.

Jill Donovan:
I have seen you do it before.

Casey Page:
Damn. So, basically I can’t go to Hollywood.

Jill Donovan:
That wasn’t number three.

Kelly Smith:
No, you’re fine.

Jill Donovan:
Okay.

Casey Page:
Dang it.

Jill Donovan:
That was number one. Okay. Number two. Kelly, tell her what we do for number two.

Kelly Smith:
For number two, we ask everybody in Off Guard what their pet peeve is.

Jill Donovan:
Yeah, we do.

Casey Page:
Oh, gosh.

Jill Donovan:
One of mine is when you don’t get close enough to the microphone.

Kelly Smith:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Casey Page:
Sorry, I forget. Probably when my husband leaves his empty water bottles on the side of the bed, because he just thinks like the bracelets magic fairy comes and picks them up.

Jill Donovan:
Does he have a lot of water bottles on the side of the bed?

Casey Page:
He drinks more water than anyone I’ve ever met.

Kelly Smith:
Really?

Jill Donovan:
Can you get him a bigger jug?

Casey Page:
We’ll go to a restaurant and the waiter will eventually realize to just leave the pitcher there.

Jill Donovan:
What is his need for that much water?

Casey Page:
I don’t know.

Kelly Smith:
He’s dehydrated.

Casey Page:
We thought he was like diabetic for a little bit, but he’s not. We’ve got him tested.

Kelly Smith:
Well, that’s good news.

Casey Page:
Yeah, because that’s when you drink a lot of water like that, that’s a sign that you could be diabetic.

Jill Donovan:
Does he have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom a lot?

Casey Page:
No.

Kelly Smith:
Good question. Good follow up question.

Casey Page:
Well, he does. Maybe like once, so not all the time.

Jill Donovan:
Can you tell me how long you’ve been working at Rustic Cuff?

Casey Page:
This December I believe will be four years.

Jill Donovan:
And how did you get hired here? Because I don’t remember interviewing you.

Kelly Smith:
Where did you come from actually?

Casey Page:
Well, you didn’t interview me. It was in the heat of the Christmas season. It was really, really busy.

Jill Donovan:
You just showed up.

Casey Page:
And… Yeah, pretty much. And so they needed someone for customer service and I actually knew Sarah [Beatty 00:08:41].

Jill Donovan:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Casey Page:
And so…

Jill Donovan:
Was Sarah in customer service?

Casey Page:
No, she wasn’t doing the showroom.

Kelly Smith:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Jill Donovan:
Okay.

Casey Page:
But that’s what I thought I was going to get hired to do was the showroom. And then I went to customer service, and wherever else.

Jill Donovan:
And now what do you do now?

Kelly Smith:
Now we stole her away.

Casey Page:
Now I’m in production. I do graphic design for one of our bracelets.

Jill Donovan:
Did you go to school to be a graphic design artist?

Casey Page:
No. Mm-mm (negative).

Jill Donovan:
No? Okay.

Casey Page:
I basically just taught myself, so…

Jill Donovan:
Since you’ve been here?

Casey Page:
Yeah.

Jill Donovan:
Yeah.

Kelly Smith:
Jill, what do we do for that third part of Off Guard?

Jill Donovan:
Okay, so the third part is we like to do something special for you. Okay?

Casey Page:
Okay.

Jill Donovan:
Not like special with a capital S. Small S, okay?

Kelly Smith:
You’re not going on a trip.

Jill Donovan:
Yeah, you’re not going on a trip.

Casey Page:
Damn.

Jill Donovan:
But we know you’ve been under a lot of stress lately. Is that correct?

Casey Page:
Yes.

Jill Donovan:
Yes.

Casey Page:
I was just kidding that with my crying thing though.

Jill Donovan:
No, but we do know that you…

Casey Page:
Yes, yes.

Jill Donovan:
We don’t want to say what the stress is about, but we know that it’s been quite a year for you.

Casey Page:
Yes.

Jill Donovan:
Yes. And that one of the most important things for what you’re going through is to rest.

Kelly Smith:
Relax.

Jill Donovan:
Relax.

Casey Page:
Probably, yes.

Jill Donovan:
Right?

Casey Page:
Yeah.

Jill Donovan:
Do you feel like you relax a lot? Enough?

Casey Page:
I don’t know. My job is obviously great. It’s not a super high stress job, but…

Jill Donovan:
You mean the job where you can come and go as you please?

Casey Page:
Right, yeah.

Jill Donovan:
That job?

Casey Page:
So, I feel like everyone can use a little more in their life, but…

Jill Donovan:
Mm-hmm (affirmative). Yeah. Well, we love you, because not only because you are so entertaining to everybody up there, and not just because you can cry on demand and do the best impressions.

Kelly Smith:
Yes.

Jill Donovan:
But just because you bring life to whatever room you walk into.

Casey Page:
Thank you.

Jill Donovan:
You do bring life. But we know that you need to relax and so we’re giving you the day off tomorrow.

Casey Page:
Are you serious?

Jill Donovan:
Mm-hmm (affirmative). And we’re giving you lunch money and bracelets money for you to take anybody that doesn’t work here.

Casey Page:
No way. These are my only friends.

Jill Donovan:
Yeah. And we’re giving you a voucher to make a new friend.

Casey Page:
Oh, my gosh.

Jill Donovan:
So, we want to give you the day off tomorrow.

Casey Page:
Yay.

Jill Donovan:
We want you to relax and rest, and know that you have earned this. So, go look for a movie and go have a nice lunch.

Casey Page:
Okay. Thank you, Jill.

Jill Donovan:
And go enjoy your day knowing that we love you and that we just want you to rest and relax, and know that God is in control.

Kelly Smith:
That’s right.

Casey Page:
Thank you very much.

Jill Donovan:
You’re welcome. But can I keep your lipstick?

Casey Page:
Yes, you can.

Jill Donovan:
Okay, okay. Before we go, could you just do one more really great impression for us?

Casey Page:
I’m trying to think. What was the one I was doing the other day? And you were like, “Why are you like Borat?” What was it?

Jill Donovan:
We want you to teach us something.

Casey Page:
I’m trying to think.

Kelly Smith:
This is interesting.

Casey Page:
I can talk in Spanish, but I don’t know what I’m saying, but it’s super believable.

Kelly Smith:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Jill Donovan:
Oh?

Kelly Smith:
That is funny.

Jill Donovan:
Wait, it’s not Spanish words?

Casey Page:
Well, it is, but I don’t know what I’m saying.

Jill Donovan:
Okay.

Casey Page:
So, I’ll tell people I’m fluent in Spanish. I’ll be like [foreign language 00:11:29].

Jill Donovan:
Oh, no, I can do that in Russian.

Kelly Smith:
Oh, go.

Casey Page:
In Russian?

Jill Donovan:
[foreign language 00:11:36].

Casey Page:
Oh, my gosh.

Kelly Smith:
Wow.

Casey Page:
Wow.

Kelly Smith:
Okay.

Jill Donovan:
What you got?

Kelly Smith:
I guess I could do Portuguese.

Jill Donovan:
Try it.

Casey Page:
Portuguese?

Kelly Smith:
[foreign language 00:11:50].

Jill Donovan:
That sounds Chinese to me.

Kelly Smith:
So, so what I meant I was Taiwanese I was speaking in.

Jill Donovan:
Do you know enough Spanish that you can actually do that again?

Casey Page:
No.

Jill Donovan:
Do that again.

Casey Page:
No, this was a song I actually sang in middle school. So, it really goes like this. [foreign language 00:12:10]. And then I just sing it, or I say it really fast.

Kelly Smith:
Sounds amazing.

Casey Page:
So, then people think I’m cool, but I’m not.

Jill Donovan:
I know one in Hebrew.

Casey Page:
Okay.

Jill Donovan:
[foreign language 00:12:18]. And then we’d get up and start… So, we appreciate your authenticity and we appreciate that you came down here, hives and all, and that you are taking the day off tomorrow, but maybe don’t come back on Friday.

Casey Page:
Are you serious?

Jill Donovan:
No.

Casey Page:
I really did get the day off?

Jill Donovan:
You really do get the day off.

Casey Page:
You serious?

Jill Donovan:
Yeah.

Casey Page:
Thank you.

Jill Donovan:
You get the day off.

Kelly Smith:
She asked, and…

Casey Page:
Oh, my gosh, you can totally keep my lipstick. Yeah.

Jill Donovan:
Make a new friend though since you don’t have anybody to ask.

Casey Page:
Okay.

Kelly Smith:
No, don’t talk to strangers. That’s what I would’ve said.

Jill Donovan:
True.

Casey Page:
Oh.

Jill Donovan:
Yeah.

Kelly Smith:
Okay, make a new friend if you want to.

Jill Donovan:
We love you.

Casey Page:
Thank you.

Jill Donovan:
We do. Thank you so much for joining us on CEO-ish bracelets today. It has been really fun. Casey, thank you for being our guest on Off Guard-

Casey Page:
Yes, I love it.

Jill Donovan:
… today. This might be the only time that you get to sit down here, so stay for a little while. Kelly Smith, thank you for being my guest co-host today.

Kelly Smith:
You’re welcome.

Jill Donovan:
There’s a fly flying around.

Kelly Smith:
It’s like a gnat on my chin.

Jill Donovan:
There’s a gnat that lives in this bracelets podcast home and it never leaves. It’s the same gnat.

Kelly Smith:
I know. Right as soon as when I start talking, it starts flying on my face.

Jill Donovan:
Yes. Thank you so much for joining us today. We will see you next time on CEO-ish.
